Abstract

The aim of this study is “To assess health awareness related to measles among residents of selected
Rural areas’’ and health promotion in rural areas. The objectives of the study: to conduct a health
survey among residents of selected rural area, to find out incidence of measles infection among
the survey population, to determine awareness about measles among the population and to identify
preventive measures used based on survey. Measles, an acute viral exanthemata’s fever, is leading
cause of childhood deaths in developing countries. Before the development of vaccines, measles
was responsible for approximately 6 million deaths of infant and children globally every year.
Measles is caused by the rubella virus and is transmitted by inhalation of infected aerosol droplets
as from sneezing, direct contact with infected nasal or throat secretion, or with article freshly
contaminated with the same nasal or throat secretion Infected with measles confers lifelong
immunity. Measles remains a major health problem in Nations and medical cases of measles
continues to be imported which have resulted in numerous “outbreaks” The design used for the
study was descriptive research design. The research design was a Non-Experimental descriptive
survey research was used. The sample size was 50 and under 5 children were selected as sample
as per criteria. The tool used for data collection consists of interview- based questions. The
reliability of the knowledge tool was determined by split half method of reliability, the tool was
administered to 10 samples. Reliability of the knowledge tool was found to be 0.88. study indicated
that There was significant association of these demographic variables with awareness regarding
measles among the residents of selected rural area. There was no significant association of these
demographic variables with awareness regarding measles among the residents of selected rural
area.
