Abstract

The pendency of cases is a serious issue faced by the Indian Judiciary. The tribunal system is
introduced in order to reduce the workload of the formal judiciary and also to avail the service
of experts in specific fields. There are advantages and drawbacks to the tribunal system due to
various factors. The paper looks into the Indian tribunals and their common features compared
to foreign countries. It put forward suggestions to improve the legislative framework to bring
up a uniform independent system. The functional scope of NGT exhibits differences from the
other tribunals in several expanses. The paper also spotlights the varied powers and jurisdiction
of NGT.
