Sports infrastructure plays a crucial role in promoting physical education and
competitive sports in higher education institutions. This study examines the availability of sports
facilities in Government and Government-Aided Colleges in Manipur and evaluates differences
using the Chi-Square (X²) test at a 0.05 significance level. The findings indicate that sports
facilities such as Table Tennis, Badminton, Kabaddi, Yoga Hall, Multipurpose Hall, and Chess
are equally available in both types of colleges, showing no statistically significant differences (p
> 0.05). However, significant disparities were observed in certain sports. Government-Aided
Colleges demonstrated higher availability of Wrestling Mats (X² = 4.80, p ≤ 0.05) and Kang
Hall (X² = 4.80, p ≤ 0.05), suggesting institutional differences in sports priorities and funding.
While some sports, such as Judo, Fencing, and Football, showed moderate variations without
statistical significance, others, like Cycling and Softball, were found to be less prioritized across
both college types. These findings highlight the need for policy interventions to bridge gaps in
specialized sports infrastructure, particularly in Government Colleges.
