This article looks into the media's vital part in the construction of Manipur's sports culture, a
locale recognized for its rich sporting legacy and fervent aficionado. It also strives to contribute
to the contemporary corpus of research on sports sociology by analysing the interplay between
sports and media in Manipur.
Manipur has now advanced as an eminent hub for athletic mastery in recent years. It has an
impeccable sporting history. scholarly research has mostly bypassed the coverage and
promotion of sports in Manipur. The paper ventures to look into the role of media in
popularising sports in Manipur, with an emphasis on the divergent types of media, their impact
on sports promotion, and the challenges that media professionals face when conveying sports
narratives to diverse audiences. By using mixed-methods approach combining surveys,
interviews, and observations, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the
labyrinth dynamics between sports and media in Manipur. It explores the evolution of sports
media coverage in Manipur, highlighting landmark moments in sports media coverage that
have had notable impacts on the state's sporting landscape. Furthermore, it investigates the
challenges and roadblocks faced by media professionals in Manipur, including issues of
representation and biases in coverage, as well as the barriers to effective sports media
communication.
